PHEV vs BEV – Which is Better and Faster with Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

In the early beginning of the car industry and manufacturer, almost 40% of the cars in the market were electric. However, due to the economics of fuel stations and lack of battery technology, fuel-based cars superseded electric cars. By the turn of 21st century, electric cars were scarce.

However, as the research and development in battery technology increased, the cost per kW decreased while energy density vastly increased. The evolution of electric vehicles is a transient response that is directly related to battery evolution.

The use of new technology and innovation led to the first step away from petrol engines and the first step towards hybrid vehicles. The car creates a seamless integration between the electric battery and petrol fuel. The car battery enables the car to run certain operations, however, it still requires the combustion engine.

The plugin Hybrid Electric vehicle is another step up from the hybrid vehicle. The hybrid vehicle only charges when the car is running, however, the plugin can be charged using an electric vehicle charging station. The internal battery allows the car to run without any fuel, in essence, its usage and limit are dependent on the car battery. If the car battery elapses, it can change its source of energy and use petrol for operation. As the capacity and energy storage of the battery improves, the less dependent the car becomes on its fuel-sources. For Tesla, the sleek design and outstanding performance challenged the critics and finally exceeded customer expectations.

Currently, both social and economic benefits are starting to tip towards EV and this growth will continue to be present in the future. With the decrease cost of batteries, increase in density and longer range the balance of power is shifting towards BEV over Hybrids.
