Web marketing means connecting and reaching out to people for them to interact with your business. There are two main methods of web marketing, and these are inbound and outbound marketing.

Outbound marketing is shotgun marketing, where you send e-mails of your services to various people or advertising on the internet. The more you attempt to reach out, the greater  the chances that people will transact.

Inbound marketing operates in the premise that people will be looking for you and there is no need for you to attempt to reach out, only to be seen quickly at least on the first page of the Google search results. Inbound marketing is accomplished either by Search Engine Optimization or by Pay-Per-Click campaigns that will eventually get you to the top through different means.
